Plan the week

Calendars and events

You can add events to a specific day yourself, or let Bryti check your family calendar for you.
When Bryti plans your week, it takes your existing plans into account. It checks both the events you add and those from your connected calendar.

Events on a day

Tap Guests, away, eating out … on a specific day in the Week page, or Add event on the Coming up page. Then choose the event type:
  1. Guests: Enter how many adults, children, and babies will be there. You can add frequent guests by name under Who's coming?. Babies don’t get their own portion, but Bryti still considers them when planning dinner.
  2. Eating out or Travel: Bryti won’t plan dinner for that day. If you’re away for several days, like Friday to Sunday, it combines them into one card.
  3. Someone away or Joining for dinner: Mark who will be at the table that evening to get the portions right. The page also lets you know if someone isn’t usually included.
  4. Busy evening: Set the maximum time dinner can take. Leave it blank for a regular evening.
  5. Celebration or Other: Add a note for Bryti to consider when planning, like “Thursday vegetarian”.
If your guests have food restrictions, add them under The guests can't have in the guest event. That day Bryti will avoid those foods in the plan and serving advice, but always check the packaging yourself. You can change or delete an event on the same day. If you remove it, Bryti can plan dinner for that day again. In the chat, saying “the Sunday visit is cancelled” works too.

A calendar Bryti reads

In the settings, under Calendars, you can connect a shared calendar address ending in .ics. You’ll find this address in the sharing settings for Google, iCloud, or Outlook.Name your calendar, paste the address, and tap Add calendar. Bryti only reads your calendar and never writes anything to it.Next 14 days on the same page shows what Bryti sees when planning. If a calendar can’t be read, the page will let you know which one.Bryti checks the calendar address each time it needs to. If you’ve made changes, tap Refresh now and Bryti will update right away.Google and iCloud may take a few hours to update your changes, so Bryti might not see new events immediately.
Worth knowingOn iPhone, Use the calendar on this phone lets you pick which phone calendars to use for dinner under Choose calendars. The phone only shares titles and times for the coming month, and Bryti never touches the calendar itself.
Right before Bryti replies in the chat or makes plans, your phone sends the calendar again, so new events are included. On the web or another phone, Bryti uses the last version sent from this phone, and the calendar page shows when that was.
NoteThis calendar is linked to your login and this phone. Others in your household can view it, but only this phone keeps it updated. If you denied calendar access, the page will show the .ics address instead.

Dinners in your own calendar

Any adult can tap Make a link under Dinners in your calendar on the Calendars page. This gives your household a private link to a calendar of your planned dinners. Each dinner shows up from the time you start cooking until it’s ready to eat, using the dish as its title. If you swap a dinner, the calendar updates automatically. On iPhone, tap Open in calendar and Calendar will ask if you want to subscribe. In Google Calendar, paste the link under “Other calendars”. Google can take many hours to pick up a change.
NoteAnyone with the link can view your dinners. If it ends up in the wrong hands, tap Make a new link and the old one stops working. Turn the link off stops every link.

Where it shows

A calendar event appears on its day in the week, like “Quick – handball 17–19”, so you know why dinner needs to be fast. On the Home page, tonight’s dinner is shown next to the evening’s events on the time strip. If you’re short on time, Bryti will ask if you want to eat earlier.
